  • A CHARTER ORDINANCE LIMITING COUNCIL MEMBERS AND THE MAYOR TO SERVING TWO CONSECUTIVE FOUR-YEAR TERMS; AMENDING SECTION 6 OF CHARTER ORDINANCE NO. 112 AND SECTION 7 OF CHARTER ORDINANCE NO. 114 OF THE CITY OF WICHITA, KANSAS, AND REPEALING THE ORIGINALS THEREOF.

    BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF WICHITA, KANSAS:

    SECTION 1. Section 6 of Charter Ordinance No. 112 is amended to read as follows:

    "Terms of Office. Council members shall be elected for a four-year term and until successors have been duly elected and qualified. No council member shall serve more than two full consecutive terms, after April 9, 1991."

    SECTION 2. Section 7 of Charter Ordinance No. 114 is amended to read as follows:

    "Term of Office. In 1991 and thereafter, the Mayor shall be elected for a four-year term and until a successor has been duly elected and qualified. No person shall serve more than two full consecutive terms as Mayor, commencing April 9, 1991."

    SECTION 3. Section 6 of Charter Ordinance No. 112 of the City of Wichita, Kansas, and Section 7 of Charter Ordinance No. 114 of the City of Wichita, Kansas, are hereby repealed.

    SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall be published once each week for two consecutive weeks in the official city newspaper.

    SECTION 5. This is a charter ordinance and is hereby made subject to a vote of the electors of the City of Wichita, Kansas. It shall take effect only if approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon.

    PASSED BY THE GOVERNING BODY, not less than two-thirds of the members-elect voting in favor thereof, this 8th day of January, 1991.
