§ 2.02.010. Vacancies requiring special election.

  • Whenever a vacancy shall exist in a majority of elective officials of the governing board of the City of Wichita, Kansas, as a result of a natural disaster or calamity or for any reason other than by recall, and no regular city election will occur within twelve months, a special election shall be called by the city manager. The special election shall be governed by the election procedures provided in Chapter 25 of the Kansas Statutes Annotated, except that the following provisions shall govern the times and dates of each proceeding in such special election:

    (a)

    The city manager shall call a special election and shall make publication of notice once in the official city paper, which notice shall set forth the date of the special election which shall be on a Tuesday;

    (b)

    The filing deadline for candidates for the special city election shall be twelve noon of the Tuesday preceding by seven weeks the day of the special election;

    (c)

    The special primary election of city officers shall be on the Tuesday preceding by four weeks the day of the special city election.
