§ 18.40.050. Inspection authority.

  • The superintendent of central inspection is authorized and directed to make, or cause to be made, inspections to determine the condition of all structures and premises located within the city, in order that he may perform his duty of safeguarding the welfare and safety of the occupants of structures and of the general public in order that he may ascertain that the standards for structures as set forth in this chapter are properly maintained. For the purpose of making such inspection, the superintendent of central inspection or his designated representative is hereby authorized to enter, examine, and survey at any reasonable time all structures and premises. The owner, agent, and occupant of every structure shall give the superintendent of central inspection or his designated representative free access to such structure and its premises at all reasonable times for the purpose of such inspection, examination, and survey. In the event of necessity, the superintendent of central inspection shall procure right of entry and inspection by application to and proper orders from a court of competent jurisdiction. Every occupant of a structure shall give the owner thereof, or his agent or employee, access to any part of such structure, or its premises at all reasonable times for the purpose of making such repairs or alterations that are necessary to effect compliance with the provisions of this chapter or with lawful rule or regulation adopted or any lawful order issued pursuant to the provisions of this chapter.
