§ 29.04.240. Section 606.3 amended.

  • Section 606.3 of the Guidelines for Solar Energy Installations, 1984 Edition, is hereby amended to read as follows:

    "Collector Anchoring. Collector installations shall securely anchor the collector array to the roof. Racks and spacers for collectors which are not parallel to the roof slope or which are raised above the roof surface allowing greater than six (6) inches of space between the collector array and the roof surface, shall be bolted through the roofing material and sheathing into a structural member supported between two or more parallel rafters and which incorporates a structural brace between the structural support member and the interior sheathing surface.

    "Racks and spacers for collectors which are both parallel to the roof surface and six (6) inches or less from the roof surface may be secured using lag bolts which penetrate the roofing and sheathing material and penetrate directly into a rafter to a minimum depth of two (2) inches.

    "Threaded bolts or lag bolts of less than 3/8 inch diameter shall not be permitted.

    "Lag bolting into the roofing material and/or sheathing only is not sufficient to fulfill this requirement."
